Russia lashed out at U.S. policies in Iran and Ukraine while backing Serbia in its EU-mediated talks with Kosovo. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov used Russia's speech at the annual UN General Assembly in New York on September 28 to defend multilateral organizations like the United Nations and warn against unilateral moves by the U.S. or other countries. Lavrov said Moscow would do "everything possible" to preserve the 2015 international accord on curbing Iran's nuclear program despite the U.S. withdrawal and would support a resolution of Serbia’s dispute with Kosovo which would suit Belgrade. He also called on the West to “reason with its disciples” in Kyiv so it sticks to the Minsk agreement which he said was the only way to resolve what Moscow refers to as the “intra-Ukrainian” conflict.
