US Exports To Iran Drop 50 Percent

In its latest monthly report released on November 4, the United States Census Bureau said that U.S. exports to Iran in the first nine months of 2020 amounted to $29.6 million, amounting to less than half of the same period last year.

Iran imported $65 million from the U.S. in the first nine months of last year.

During this period, Iran exports to the United States totaled $3.5 million, a low figure compared to the same period in 2018, when Iran had about $70 million in exports to the U.S. and over $300 million in imports from the U.S.

Major US exports to Iran included medical equipment, medicine, and food.

Iran's total trade with the United States was roughly $33 million through September, a drop of approximately 34 percent from the same month one year ago.

The change in exports was down 41 percent, and imports declined by 94 percent. Iran ranked No. 182 among U.S. trade partners in September, compared to No. 175 for the same month last year, the report said.

The top three U.S. exports were respiration equipment, natural or synthetic, and salts, ether, and medicines in individual dosages by tonnage.

The top three U.S. imports, also by tonnage, included carpets, sweaters, pullovers, vests and paintings, drawings, and other artwork.

The top three U.S. exports by value in September were medical instruments, medicines in individual dosages and respiration equipment. The top U.S. imports by value from Iran in the same month included almonds, walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, and jams and jellies.

Major Iranian exports to the United States in the pre-sanctions period prior to 2018 included carpets, pistachios and foodstuffs.
