Soleimani To Be Buried In Kerman After Ceremony Led By Khamenei In Tehran

Iran Supreme Leader visiting family of General Soleimani on Friday evening to offer condolences.

Iranian media say the family of General Qassem Soleimani have announced that he will be buried in his hometown Kerman after a ceremony officiated by the Supreme Leader in Tehran on Sunday.

The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) quoted a source at the Iranian embassy in Baghdad as saying that Soleimani's body will be flown home after a funeral ceremony in Baghdad on Saturday morning.

Soleimani was killed early Friday local time in Baghdad by a U.S. drone strike, after warnings to Iran by U.S. President Donald trump and other officials to cease "orchestrating" attacks on U.S. interests.

According to the Iranian state-run television, Soleimani's family have announced that a funeral ceremony will be held at Tehran University on Sunday morning and the Supreme Leader will personally officiate at the ceremony by praying on the body.

Soleimani's body is to be flown to Kerman, Soleimani's hometown, after the ceremony in Tehran to be buried at Golzar Shohada (Garden of Martyrs) Cemetery according to his will.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had on many occasions praised Soleimani and has vowed "harsh vengeance" for the U.S. airstrike that killed him.

The Pentagon took responsibility for the attack and said in a statement said it had taken decisive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qassem Soleimani at the direction of President Donald Trump.
