Iranian media reported on Monday that a Polish diplomatic delegation is in Tehran and has met Iran’s deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi.

Diplomatic tensions have emerged between Iran and Poland in the wake of the announcement of a U.S. sponsored international meeting in Warsaw focused on Iran.

Iranian media have linked the visit of the Polish delegation to these tensions, but Polish diplomats have not made any statement about the purpose of their visit.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on January 11 during his Mideast tour that a “global summit” will take place in Poland in mid-February, to discuss the Middle East and particularly Iran.

Tehran strongly protested to Warsaw and Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif summoned Poland’s charge d’affaires in Tehran on January 13 to say that Iran saw the decision to host the meeting as a “hostile act”.
