Tehran said on Monday that it has warned Washington against making another attempt to seize an Iranian oil tanker that was freed by Gibraltar despite a U.S. bid to have it detained.

"Iran has given necessary warnings to American officials through its official channels... not to make such a mistake because it would have grave consequences," Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi told a news conference.

The U.S. has not yet responded to this statement.

Iran is also holding a British oil tanker, which was seized after Gibraltar detained the Iranian tanker on July 4.

There is no hint if the release of the Iranian tanker by Britain and Gibraltar will be followed by the release of the British vessel.

Mousavi told the press conference that the fate of the ship will be decided by an Iranian courts.

Yesterday, the commander of Islamic Revolution Guard Corps, IRGC navy said that two tankers, one seized by Iran and another in Gibraltar are two separate issues and “their detention or release are not related with one another”.
