Videos On Social Media Show New Protests In Iran

Screen-grab of a video reportedly showing anti-government protest in the city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran on January 29, 2018.

Video clips published in Iranian social media indicate that renewed protests took place against the Supreme Leader and the Islamic Republic in the evening of January 29 in several cities.

The videos show protests in Bandar Abbas, Khorramabad, Arak, Kerman and Shiraz. Protesters are shouting “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, we are all together” and “Death to Khamenei”.

Radio Farda is not allowed to have reporters in Iran and not being able to independently verify the exact venue or time of the protests, does not confirm or question the veracity of the videos.

Before the publication of these videos there were calls on social media for people to come out and protest the anniversary of the 1979 revolution.

Reportedly, there are also similar calls for more protests to follow.

Widespread protests in Iran turned into serious arrests a month ago, during which at least 25 people dies and 3,700 arrested. Hundreds of protesters are still in detention.
