Referring to the Iranian oil tanker seized by British marines, in Gibraltar, Tehran Friday Prayer Imam Kazem Seddiqi assured his audience on July 12 that mighty hands of the Islamic Republic would soon slap the U.K. for its wrong and reckless move.
The Gibraltar Port and Enforcement authrotites said on July 4; they have detained a supertanker carrying Iranian crude oil to Syria.
A statement issued by Gibraltar noted the supertanker and its cargo had been detained with assistance by the United Kingdom's Royal Marines for violating EU sanctions against Syria.
Sediqqi's comments echoed earlier warnings by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), threatening the U.K. by retaliatory action.
A day earlier on Thursday, the IRGC had announced that the United States and Britain would "strongly regret" the seizure of a tanker off Gibraltar, the semi-official Fars News Agency reported.
"If the enemy had made the smallest assessment they wouldn't have done this act," said Rear-Admiral Ali Fadavi, deputy commander in chief of the IRGC.
He added that the seizure of the tanker was "stupidity... a trait the American President has in spades and the British to some extent."
Joining voices with the military, Seddiqi said the Islamic Republic will give the British such a hard slap in the face that will make them regret forever, the mid-ranking cleric reiterated.
