A government report is outlining how spy services from China, Russia and Iran are hard at work trying to steal trade secrets and proprietary information from U.S. companies, government labs and universities.
While Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election is well-known, the report from the National Counterintelligence and Security Center says economic espionage also is jeopardizing America's security and competitive advantage.
The report cites Iranian hackers known as "Rocket Kitten" who are said to have repeatedly targeted American defense companies in hopes of stealing information that would help boost Tehran's missile and space programs.
Russian hackers last year compromised dozens of U.S. energy companies.
And, according to the report, a Chinese cyberespionage group called APT10 continually attacks U.S. engineering, telecom and aerospace industries.
