Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israeli agents continue to operate inside Iran to prevent the progress of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear ambitions, Israeli media reported.
Netanyahu was speaking to a large group of diplomats on December 16 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem.
“We are fighting all over the world in regards to Iran’s nuclear program” Netanyahu was quoted as saying by Times of Israel.
At a well-publicized appearance last April, Netanyahu announced that Israel was able to get hold of and smuggle 100,000 documents from Iran, which was essentially an archive encompassing the country’s nuclear program.
The Israeli prime minister strongly opposed the 2015 Iran nuclear deal made by the Obama administration and he has found a staunch ally in President Donald Trump, who last May withdrew from the agreement and reimposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
Iran’s Supreme Leader and top officials routinely call for the destruction of Israel and label it a “cancer” in the region. Iran also assists militant anti-Israeli groups, such as the Hezbollah, Hamas and others. Israel views a possible Iranian nuclear weapon as a detrimental threat to its existence.
