Police say more than 20 people are dead and more than 100 wounded after a shooting near a hotel in the U.S. city of Las Vegas.
The main suspect used an automatic rifle to shoot from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel and was killed by police shortly afterward, police spokesman Joe Lombardo said at a news conference on October 2.
The suspect was a local man, Lombardo said.
Las Vegas police said several off-duty officers attending a country music festival were among those killed in the shooting, which occurred late on October 1.
Although U.S. authorities believe the perpetrator was a "sole actor," Lombardo said that police are also searching for an Asian woman identified as Mari Lou Danley, who was with the suspect at the time of the attack.
Authorities shut down part of the Las Vegas Strip and Interstate 15, a nearby highway.
Some flights destined for McCarran International Airport were diverted due to the incident.
Witnesses say country singer Jason Aldean was playing near the end of the concert when gunfire rang out.
