Hours after the Iranian Interior Ministry announced the end of the terrorist attacks on Ayatollah Khomeini's Mausoleum and the parliament, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei shrugged off the events as "terrorists fumbling with firecrackers".
Addressing an audience of university students and representatives of student associations, Khamenei called the terrorists as "too small to affect the will of the Iranian people and the authorities".
"This also reveals that if the Islamic Republic had not resisted, at the center of all this conspiracy, we would have had much more trouble of this sort in the country" Khamenei said according to the transcript of his speech posted on his official website.
Although Ayatollah Khamenei did not name any particular government as the culprit for Wednesday's attacks, the Revolutionary Guards Corps had earlier linked the attacks to a recent visit by US President Donald Trump to Saudi Arabia and meeting leaders in Riyadh.
The IRGC is directly under the command of the Supreme Leader.
