Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has said that if the United States stops its sanctions and returns to the 2015 nuclear agreement, negotiations would be possible.

Iran’s state broadcaster quoted Rouhani Wednesday as saying, “Whenever they stop injustice toward the people of Iran and put aside oppressive sanctions, respect their obligations and return to the negotiating table which they abandoned, the road for them will be open”.

Rouhani addressing the U.S. added that if “you choose a different path…and respect justice and the law, the Iranian nation will keep the road open for you”.

At the same time Iran’s deputy foreign minister Abbas Araqchi has ruled out any sort of negotiations with the U.S. during a visit to Qatar.

Araqchi underlined the importance of securing the economic interests and security of all regional countries and expressed readiness to discuss all issues with Persian Gulf states.

Araqchi’s comments echo the statement of Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif who over the weekend called for a non-aggression pact with regional countries.

The Iranian diplomat also alleged that some “elements” in the Trump administration are pushing for war that would be “catastrophic” for the region.

Iran also reacted to remarks by U.S. National Security Council Advisor John Bolton who had earlier on Wednesday alleged that Tehran was behind attacks on four tankers docked off the Emirati port city of Fujairah earlier this month.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi categorically denied the allegations and called them "ridiculous."
