The news agency of Iran’s state broadcaster reported on Sunday that the country’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will issue an “important and strategic message” to the Iranian people in the coming days.
The agency adds that the message will be on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 revolution and the beginning of its fifth decade.
There are still no details or predictions about what Khamenei’s message might contain or what areas of policy it might cover.
It is no surprise for Khamenei to deliver a speech on the occasion of the anniversary, as he has already done in recent days, but announcing the upcoming “important” message in advance adds a degree of expectancy to what might prove to be a routine message aimed at justifying policies and emphasizing accomplishments.
The Islamic Republic would have liked to enjoy better conditions at its 40th year of existence but U.S. sanctions have worsened the country’s economic situation, which already suffered from lack of investments, a large degree of self-made isolation and charges of corruption.
