The new representative of the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has described Israel as the “main enemy”, saying, “Our youth are fully prepared for the annihilation of Israel”.
Fars News, run by IRGC, cited mid-ranking cleric Abdollah Haji Sadeghi as saying, at a ceremony in the city of Ahvaz, “We are now ready for conquering Bait-ul-Muqaddas (Jerusalem) and wiping out the regime occupying Quds.”
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed Abdollah Haji Sadeghi as his representative to IRGC, two weeks ago.
Islamic Republic’s officials have repeatedly described Israel as a “cancerous tumor” and promised to cut it out.
Meanwhile, U.N., U.S., EU and several other governments have always strongly deplored Tehran’s anti-Israeli rhetoric.
Israel, for its part, has presented Iranian threats as proof of the Islamic Republic’s hostility to its existence, for the lastt four decades.
Haji Sadeghi has made his comments nearly a month after another senior IRGC member verbally attacked Israel to the extent that even Russia, considered as Tehran’s ally, forcefully rejected it.
Chief Commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, Qasem Soleimani also recently called for the destruction of Israel.
Reacting to Soleimani’s rhetoric, Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov told his Iranian counterpart, “Comments such as wiping out Israel from the map are unacceptable and are a wrong way for advancing a country’s interests.”
In the meantime, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused the Islamic Republic in recent months of expanding its military presence in Syria., declaring that Tehran’s ultimate aim is war with Israel and its destruction.
