Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced it will launch 40,000 projects to alleviate poverty around the country.
IRGC commander, general Mohammad Ali Ja’afari told Tasnim news agency January 15, the projects will be completed in the next six months, to mark the 40th anniversary of Iran’s revolution, which is next month.
The top IRGC officer did not provide any details about the nature or the extent of these projects.
The website of IRGC’s construction organization has published more details, showing that these will be small, local projects that are simple to complete and achievable by local people, “benefiting the public in general”.
The website, however, mentions that another aim of the initiative is to “generate popularity for the regime”.
