IRAN -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif (R) speaks with ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi in the capital Tehran, June 10, 2019

The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, Abbas Mousavi, has denied rumors that said the United States had sent a message to Iran via Russia.

Mousavi said noted that, "there are no negotiations going on between Iran and the United States at any level."

Mousavi was apparently denying social media reports that said Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the United States' Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were slated to meet soon thanks to Russia's mediation efforts.

The Iranian official characterized the reports as "fake news" and "news fabrication."

The reports may have been inspired by other news which said Zarif was going to visit several countries including the United States in the coming weeks.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has dismissed and even prohibited negotiations with the United States.

He said during a recent meeting with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that "The United States lacks honesty," and that there will be no negotiation.
