AUSTRIA -- International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano addresses a news conference during a board of governors meeting at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, March 4, 2019

Speaking at a news conference at IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Director-General Yukiya Amano said Iran has increased the production of enriched uranium.

Amano declined to provide specific details but said,"that the pace of production has increased according to the latest measurement."

Limiting the production of enriched uranium and its subsequent export are the cornerstones of the 2015 nuclear deal signed between Iran and world powers including the United States, European Union, and Russia.

Amano also noted increased friction between the signatories of the deal since the United States withdrew in May 2018 saying, "it is clear that tension is increasing, so it is good to reduce the tension and that needs to be done by or through dialogue."
