CIA Releases More Documents Captured In Bin Laden Raid

U.S. -- CIA Director Mike Pompeo speaks at the FDD National Security Summit in Washington, October 19, 2017

The Central Intelligence Agency released more than 400,000 documents from the May 2011 raid in Abbottabad Pakistan in which Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was killed.

CIA director Mike Pompeo noted that "Today's release ... provides the opportunity for the American people to gain further insights into the plans and workings of this terrorist organization,"

The trove of documents includes video and audio files and electronic documents that were collected in the raid in Pakistan. The CIA has periodically released documents that were from the Bin Laden raid.

In previous releases Al-Qaeda's accounting ledgers and organizational material were released. Today's release comes from one of the captured computers.

According to Thomas Joscelyn and Bill Roggi from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies the documents also include the wedding video of Hamza Bin Laden. The analysts suggest that the video of Bin Laden's oldest son is taken in Iran.

The release also shows the banality of Bin Laden's life in the compound. The CIA withheld clearly copyrighted material from the release in order to comply with law.
