Iranian media reported Thursday, July 11 that another clash has taken place between the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps, IRGC and a “terrorist team” in Western Iran.
The exact date or time of the clash has not been disclosed, but it appears it must have occurred on Wednesday or Thursday.
Media quotes an IRGC statement saying that a militant group attempted to penetrate Iranian territory “from western borders”, meaning Iraq, for purposes of attacks and “sabotage”.
One member of the Revolutionary Guards has been killed in the clash.
The statement did not name the group, but Iranian Kurdish separatist and dissident organizations are active in Iraq and western Iran, with frequent clashes reported between armed elements and Iranian security forces.
The statement adds that the group was carrying “Significant amounts of arms, ammunition and communication gear”.
On Tuesday, militants ambushed an IRGC vehicle further north killing three servicemen. On Wednesday, Kurdish groups reported retaliation by Iran’s armed forces by artillery shelling of areas in Iraqi Kurdistan, where armed groups have bases.
