The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially called on Iran to explain the killing of a number of Afghan citizens by Iranian security forces in the course of the protests in November, Radio Free Europe's Afghan Service reported.

The REFE/RL Afghan service on Monday December 2 quoted a spokesman for the Afghan Foreign Ministry as having said that the Ministry is following up the case and Iranian officials have promised to offer explanations.

The spokesman also told an Afghan newspaper that 9 Afghan immigrants have been killed by security forces during protests when security forces opened fire on demonstrators.

The families of three of the victims have called on the Afghan Foreign Ministry for help regarding the repatriation of the victims' bodies.

Meanwhile, Shokrollah Mashkour, the Chairman of the Independent Afghan Human Rights Commission has told REFE/RL, "We express concern over the violation of human rights in Iran and call on the Afghan government to follow the case via diplomatic means."

Earlier a member of the Iranian parliament's national security committee admitted that some of those killed during the protests have been foreign citizens.

IRGC linked Fars news agency which is known for fabricating reports, claimed on November 19 that 7 citizens of one of Iran's eastern neighbors have been arrested after an attack on 5 banks in southern Tehran.

Protest started in Iran on November 15 following a sudden hike in gas price but quickly turned into a political upheaval that claimed hundreds of lives as clashes broke out during the government's violent clampdown on the protests.
