One day after foreign minister of four Arab countries harshly criticized Iran’s policies in the region, Tehran rejected their claims as “baseless” and “unconstructive”.

On Thursday, March 7, on the margins of the Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo, the representatives of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain issued a statement denouncing Iran’s “provocative statements and expressed “deep concern over Iranian sectarian incitement in Arab countries and its support of terrorist militias.”

The four countries comprise an Arab ministerial committee on Iranian activities.

The ministers also condemned what they termed the continuation of Iranian-made ballistic missile launched from Yemen on targets in Saudi Arabia.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghassemi (Qassemi) later on Thursday dismissed the criticism, saying the four countries do not represent all Arab states in the region, IRNA reported.

“Member states of this committee know very well that this statement does not reflect the position of all regional countries and reflects the views of particular countries”, Ghassemi said. He added that Iran will not change its policies “in the fight against terrorism and the presence of outside forces in the Persian Gulf”.
