Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) in a short statement said Iran launched missiles at militants in Syria allegedly responsible for an attack in Ahvaz last week which left 25 dead and dozens wounded, according to the IRIB news agency.

The statement said the target was "the base for the leaders" of those responsible for the Ahvaz attack in eastern Syria and ballistic missiles were used.

Several militants from the "Al Ahvaz" group were killed in the attack, which took place in the Albu Kamal region of eastern Syria, according to Fars News.

The early Monday morning announcement does not give any details about the exact time or location of the attack or which group was targeted.

Fars news agency close to the IRGC says that two different kind of ballistic missiles were used, Zolfaqar (750 km range) and Qiam (800 km range). But the agency did not disclose the source of this information.

Some video clips have been published on Social media, which claim the missiles were fired from a location near the western Iranian city of Kermanshah and apparently one of the missiles crashed after launch.
